Tribal Arts Classes
Posted: October 7, 2015
The Chippewa Valley Museum is accepting registrations for Tuesday night classes this fall featuring the artwork of Dick Mindykowski, Lac Courte Oreille tribal member and owner of Native Design. Mr. Mindykowski will be leading participants in creating personalized walking sticks while they explore Ojibwe culture and traditions.
Sessions include background information on trapping and tanning techniques, as well as the methods used for hand-harvesting the wood and other natural materials for each piece. Students will add their own beadwork and feathers. They will also learn about the meanings and significance of the resources used.
Two project sizes are available. The charge for walking sticks over four feet is $25 (adult-sized). Those less than four feet will be $15 (child-sized). All finished pieces will be signed by both the artist and the student. There is a limit of one project per person per class.
Attendees may select from four class dates: October 13 or 20, or November 3 or 10. All sessions run from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Enrollment is open to ages 13 and older, or 12 and under with adult supervision. Families are welcome.
All classes will be held at the Chippewa Valley Museum located at 1204 Half Moon Drive in scenic Carson Park. Contact Karen Jacobson at 715-834-7871 or k.jacobson@cvmuseum.com for details or to register.
