"A Passing Interest: The Story of Gus Dorais," presented by local author Joe Niese

EAU CLAIRE, WIS. – The National Football League’s 100th season has come to a close, and Chippewa Valley Museum is hosting a program examining the unique story of a local football legend. Author Joe Niese will present “A Passing Interest: The Story of Football Innovator Gus Dorais” Tuesday January 21 at 6:00p at the museum in Carson Park.

Charles Emile “Gus” Dorais was a Chippewa Falls native who took his high school football team to a state championship in 1909 and earned all-state honors as a quarterback. He helped revolutionize football’s forward pass and enjoyed a coaching career spanning from a small Catholic college in Iowa to the NCAA and the NFL.

Niese’s presentation will include insights and excerpts from his book Gus Dorais: Gridiron Innovator, All-American and Hall of Fame Coach, coauthored by Gus’s grandson Bob Dorais. Copies of the book, along with other titles by Niese, will be available for purchase through the museum’s store.

The Chippewa Valley Museum seeks to connect people to the community and inspire curiosity by collecting, preserving, and sharing the Chippewa Valley’s historical and cultural resources.
