New Book About Eau Claire
Posted: November 16, 2017
A History of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Volume 1: The Lumbering Era is now available in the Chippewa Valley Museum store. Written by Eau Claire native and retired historian Brian L. Blakeley, the book covers early settlement through 1906. It delves into the relationships between entrepreneurs and professionals from the Northeastern United States -Yankees - and the immigrant workers from Canada, Ireland, Scandinavia, and Germany. Religious, national, and ward rivalries frequently exacerbated these divisions of class and economy. This is the first volume of a planned three volume series.
The book is published by Chippewa Valley Museum Press and is available for $24.95.
